On September 16, 1973, Walter Carlos SCHNEUER YUBERO, 21 years old, a student and militant of the Frente de Estudiantes de Revolucionarios (FER MIR), was detained.
According to his family, on that day the victim told them he was being pursued. He left his home and was detained on a public street by Carabineros.
Subsequently, the family found his body at the Instituto Médico Legal. When they requested the release of the remains, they were informed that they had already been buried in plot 29 of the Cementerio General. Some time later, the family carried out an exhumation.
In this case, as in several others in the Región Metropolitana, the death certificate provides a date of death prior to the date of detention established by the multiple and consistent testimonies that the Commission has received. The death certificate states that the victim died on September 11, 1973, due to: "cranial gunshot wound."
The autopsy was performed on September 26, and the death registration is dated October 4, 1973.
The Commission reached the conviction that the execution of Walter Schneuer constituted a grave violation of human rights, as it was the responsibility of State agents and was carried out outside of any legal process. This conviction is based on the victim's active political militancy, the verified fact of his detention, and the fact that the cause of his death was gunshot wounds.
