Ernesto Enrique Zúñiga Vergara was a 29-year-old artillery mechanic and former marine, a militant of the MIR, who became a victim of political violence on January 16, 1982, in Pudahuel. On January 16, 1982, according to information gathered by the Commission, at the intersection of Calle Teniente Cruz and José Joaquín Pérez, in Pudahuel, Ernesto ZUÑIGA VERGARA, 29 years old and a militant of the MIR, attempted to flee upon noticing the presence of CNI agents. A confrontation subsequently ensued with the agents pursuing him, as a result of which he was fatally wounded.
The Commission has reached the conviction that Ernesto Zúñiga is a victim of political violence.
