Segundo Cayul Tranamil died that day at 9:00 hours, in the town of Carahue, due to "brain matter explosion caused by a penetrating gunshot wound to the skull," as stated in his Death Certificate.
According to statements by eyewitnesses, Segundo Cayul was arrested on June 1 at his home by Carabineros officers and taken to the police station in Puerto Domínguez. He remained there until June 3, the date on which he was removed to be transferred to Carahue.
The transfer was carried out on a regular bus route, which was forced to stop at Paradero 12, in the Tres Esquinas sector. At that location, the carabineros took the detainee off the bus, telling him they were going to set him free.
They made him walk a short distance, and in the presence of the bus driver and the passengers, Segundo Cayul was shot in the back, which caused his immediate death.
The death registration was carried out by order of the Fourth Military Court of Valdivia and the First Criminal Court of Carahue.
Considering the evidence gathered and the investigation conducted by this Corporation, the Superior Council reached the conviction that Segundo Cayul Tranamil was arrested and executed by State agents outside of any legal process. For this reason, it declared him a victim of human rights violations.
