On September 18, 1973, Sergio Orlando PERALTA MARTINEZ, 39 years old, a topographer, advisor to the Intendencia de Santiago, and a member of the Partido Socialista, died.
He was detained on September 16 at his home, located on Calle Obispo Donoso in the commune of Providencia, by members of the Fuerza Aérea and taken to an unknown destination. The countless efforts made by his family to determine his whereabouts were unsuccessful.
His body was found on September 23 at the Instituto Médico Legal. The death certificate lists the cause as: "thoracic gunshot wound with projectile exit" and the date as: September 18, 1973.
This Commission is convinced that Sergio Orlando Peralta was executed outside of any legal process by State agents who violated his right to life. This conviction is based on the following elements: the certainty of his detention, the victim's political affiliation, and the manner of his death.
