Sergio Enrique Garrido Barrios died that day at 21:30 hours, at the Sótero del Río Hospital, due to a thoracic gunshot wound with no exit projectile, as certified by the Medical Death Certificate from the Legal Medical Institute.
According to statements provided by his relatives and eyewitnesses, on September 13, 1973, around 20:00 hours and during the curfew, while Sergio Garrido was in the front yard of his home in the Alto Palena neighborhood, currently the commune of San Ramón, he was struck by a projectile fired by Fuerza Aérea personnel patrolling the area.
He was transported to the Sótero del Río Hospital, where he passed away that same day.
Based on the evidence gathered and the investigation conducted by this Corporation, its Superior Council declared Sergio Enrique Garrido Barrios a victim of human rights violations by State agents who made excessive use of force.
