Julio Vergara Sepúlveda died that day at 5:00 hours, at the Pío Nono bridge at Cardenal Caro, due to multiple thoracic-abdominal gunshot wounds, according to the Medical Death Certificate from the Legal Medical Institute.
According to the testimony of the owner of the house where he lived, in the La Legua neighborhood, Julio Vergara left on October 6, 1973, for his work as a vendor at a magazine kiosk located on Calle San Diego, and did not return. She stated that he had no known relatives and that he had recently been released from the former Santiago Penitentiary.
Days later, she was notified that his name appeared on a list of deceased persons from the Legal Medical Institute whose bodies had been sent to the General Cemetery. When she went to verify the information, she confirmed that he had been buried in Patio No. 29.
A few days later, officials from the Investigations Police arrived looking for him, without stating their motives.
According to information provided by the Directorate of the General Cemetery of Santiago, his remains were exhumed and cremated, with the date undetermined.
Considering the background information gathered and the investigations carried out by this Corporation, the Superior Council, taking into account the time and cause of his death, the place where his body was found, and the circumstances of his burial, reached the conviction that Julio Vergara Sepúlveda was extrajudicially executed by State agents.
For this reason, it declared him a victim of human rights violations.
