GARZON MORILLO, BENJAMIN: 35 years old, married, driver, victim of political execution on September 23, 1973 in Antofagasta.

LUQUE SCHURMAN, JOSE: 33 years old, single, driver, victim of political execution on September 23, 1973 in Antofagasta.

MARIN ALVAREZ, HECTOR GUSTAVO: 45 years old, married, self-employed, victim of political execution on September 23, 1973 in Antofagasta.

All of them died that day at 3:45 hours, in the Salar del Carmen, Antofagasta, due to acute anemia, cerebral, pulmonary, and hepatic lacerations, injuries caused by firearm projectiles, as certified by the respective Medical Death Certificates from the Legal Medical Institute.

According to official information provided to the press, Benjamín Garzón, José Luque, and Héctor Marín were detained that day in Baquedano by Carabineros officers on suspicion of being responsible for vehicle thefts in the area and for not carrying identification documents.

While they were being transported to Antofagasta, in the area of the Salar del Carmen, they allegedly attempted to escape on foot and naked, taking advantage of a stop made by the vehicle transporting them; the police officers fired to prevent the escape, killing all three.

The location where the deaths occurred was a desolate area. It could not be determined if a criminal investigation was initiated regarding these events.

Considering the evidence gathered and the investigation conducted, the Superior Council reached the conviction that Benjamín Garzón Morillo, José Luque Schurman, and Héctor Gustavo Marín Alvarez were executed outside of any legal process while in custody. For this reason, it declared them victims of human rights violations.
