Rosa Blanca Tobar Cerón died that day at 15:00 hours, at the Hospital José Joaquín Aguirre, due to a complicated facial gunshot wound, as recorded in the Medical Death Certificate from the Legal Medical Institute.
According to eyewitnesses, around 8:00 hours on September 16, 1973, Rosa Tobar was with some neighbors waiting in line to make a purchase in front of a bakery located on Calle Independencia, in the Plaza Chacabuco sector.
Because some people were not respecting the order, Rosa Tobar complained, and a Carabineros officer who was on guard at the bakery fired a shot into the air to control the situation. This projectile ricocheted off a pole and then struck her. Transported in a private vehicle to a medical center, she passed away moments later.
Considering the evidence gathered and the investigation conducted by this Corporation, the Superior Council declared Rosa Blanca Tobar Cerón a victim of the political violence prevailing at the time of her death.
