Four people died on October 11, 12, and October 13, 1983, dates on which the Sixth National Day of Protest took place:
Pedro Germán ZAMORA PORTILLA, 15 years old, a student, and René Enrique PAVEZ PINO, 19 years old, a night-school student and worker in the Occupational Program for Heads of Households (POJH), were killed by gunshot wounds on the night of October 13 on Calle John Kennedy at the intersection with Vicuña Mackenna (Santiago).
That day, while protest demonstrations were taking place, a police vehicle arrived at the scene. Three Carabineros officers got out and immediately began firing. Pedro Germán Zamora and René Enrique Pavez were struck by bullets that caused their deaths.
Given these facts, the Commission concludes that the police forces, through the excessive use of force, violated the right to life of both young men.
