On August 1, 1975, Jaime Raúl OLIVARES JORQUERA, a socialist militant—according to some accounts, of the faction known as the Elenos—died while being held at the premises of the Investigative Brigade for Assaults of the Investigaciones police force.
As reported to the press, the individual had died in a confrontation with Investigaciones officers. However, the victim's death certificate lists the cause of death as asphyxia or suffocation due to aspiration of vomit, which contradicts the official version.
The false information and the other circumstances of the event lead this Commission to the conviction that state agents were responsible for the death of Raúl Olivares, and it therefore considers him a victim of human rights violations.
