Pedro Segundo Villarroel Nazara died that day at 5:30 hours, at the La Punta canal, due to multiple gunshot wounds to the face, neck, thorax, abdomen, and extremities with projectile exit wounds, as certified by the Medical Death Certificate from the Legal Medical Institute.
During 1973, the Ninth Criminal Court of Santiago initiated proceedings regarding the discovery of Pedro Nazara's body, which had been found on a public road and identified through dactyloscopic analysis. The investigation failed to establish the circumstances surrounding his death, but the Autopsy Protocol specified that he had received 18 bullet impacts in different parts of his body.
Pedro Nazara's family only learned of his death in 1990, and therefore had no information to contribute to the investigation.
Although the investigation conducted by this Corporation could not determine the precise circumstances of the death or the existence of a prior detention for which State agents were responsible, the concatenation of the manner in which the death occurred, the large number of shots he received, and the way his body was discovered led the Superior Council to the conviction that Pedro Segundo Nazara Villarroel was executed outside of any legal process and that, subsequently, he was abandoned on a public road by those responsible.
Consequently, he was declared a victim of human rights violations.
