On March 30, 1984, Pedro Lorenzo NUÑEZ ENRIQUEZ, 27 years old, a 2nd Corporal of the Carabineros, died.
On the night of that day, at the corner of Calle Carmen and Avenida Bernardo O’Higgins in Santiago, a bus from the Special Forces Prefecture transporting personnel to their barracks was the target of an explosive attack.
A remotely detonated bomb caused the destruction of the vehicle, resulting in injuries to several of its occupants, including 2nd Corporal Pedro NUÑEZ, who passed away hours later in the Intensive Care Unit of the Posta Central.
The autopsy report stated that the cause of death was multiple trauma caused by an explosive device.
The evidence analyzed allows for the conclusion that this attack was carried out with the intent to harm the Carabineros of Chile and that, due to the nature of the act, it was impossible for the victims to defend themselves.
This Commission has formed the conviction that 2nd Corporal of the Carabineros Pedro Núñez was killed in an action by private individuals who, acting under political pretexts, violated his human rights.
