Pedro de Nazaret González Valdería died that day at the Fábricas y Maestranzas del Ejército (FAMAE) facility due to thoracic trauma caused by a bullet, as recorded in the Medical Death Certificate from the Legal Medical Institute.
According to information obtained from the judicial proceedings, on the day of the incident, at approximately 14:30 hours, Pedro González climbed a wall at FAMAE with the intention of taking some eucalyptus leaves that were inside the military facility but whose branches were growing toward the street.
Under these circumstances, he was struck by a bullet fired by a conscript soldier who was on sentry duty in a guard post inside the facility, who acted without prior warning. González Valdería died immediately.
The Second Military Prosecutor's Office of Santiago initiated proceedings to investigate the events, which were dismissed totally and temporarily because the military judge deemed that there was no evidence to establish that a crime had been committed.
Considering the evidence gathered and the investigation conducted by this Corporation, the Superior Council declared Pedro de Nazaret González Valdería a victim of human rights violations by State agents who made improper use of force.
