During the last parliamentary election, among the supporters and members of the electoral campaign team for Pablo Longueira—deputy and president of the UDI—was the notorious torturer Mario Papi Rivas, who carried out macabre tasks on the "grill" (parrilla) where prisoners at the clandestine detention center known as "Venda Sexy" were subjected to abuse.
This was denounced by the human rights organization HIJOS during a demonstration held in front of the UDI headquarters, where they repudiated the stance taken by this far-right political group of offering financial compensation in exchange for avoiding judicial proceedings.
Alvaro Muñoz, son of the forcibly disappeared Jorge Muñoz Putays, stated that they do not share the position taken by some individuals from Pisagua, while also criticizing Longueira's actions.
Likewise, the protest was accompanied by signs featuring symbolic figures of Pinochetism who are also militants of that party.
Finally, Muñoz added that in order to make progress on human rights issues, it is necessary to repeal the 1978 Amnesty Law and allow the Courts of Justice to fulfill their duty.
