Between September 13 and September 16, 1973, several deaths and disappearances occurred linked to the presence of detainees at the Estadio Chile.

Sócrates PONCE PACHECO, 30 years old, Ecuadorian, lawyer, comptroller of the company INDUMET, Socialist Party militant. The official version provided by the Chilean Foreign Ministry on March 27, 1974, stated that "this individual was a comptroller of an industry and resisted the action of Military Forces by firing upon them, perishing in the confrontation."

However, the Commission received credible testimonies indicating that Ponce was arrested on September 11, 1973, at his workplace by Carabineros personnel and taken to the 12th Precinct. From there, he was sent to the Tacna Regiment on the morning of September 12, to be finally transferred to the Estadio Chile at noon.

In the early hours of the 13th, he was called over loudspeakers, and Army personnel removed him from the premises.

The body was found in the vicinity of the Estadio Chile, at the intersection of Unión Latinoamericana and Alameda, presenting eight gunshot wounds, according to the autopsy report. The body was retrieved from the Legal Medical Institute by his relatives. The death certificate lists the date of death as September 12, which differs from what the relatives declared.

Based on the evidence presented, the Commission formed the conviction that Sócrates Ponce was executed outside of any legal framework by State agents, constituting a violation of his fundamental human rights.

It bases its conviction on the testimonies received regarding the victim's detention and his presence in various facilities, as well as the documents accounting for the causes of his death, all of which allow for the refutation of the official version regarding the alleged confrontation.
