On September 16, 1973, Manuel LARA NUÑEZ, 30 years old, an agricultural worker, died at his home in Chillán.
The victim was killed by Carabineros officers at his residence. Following a domestic dispute, his spouse filed a complaint; police personnel arrived at the scene and proceeded to kill him in the presence of witnesses. His death certificate states the cause of death as: "acute anemia, multiple ballistic perforations. Action by Carabineros."
Given that the victim was killed by gunshot wounds fired by Carabineros and based on the statements of eyewitnesses, this Commission has reached the conviction that Manuel Lara was a victim of the improper use of force by State agents, in violation of his human rights.
