Erasmo Juvenal Vásquez San Martín died that day at 17:30 hours, at the Investigaciones facility in Valdivia, due to asphyxia by hanging, as certified by his Death Certificate.

According to statements from family members, Erasmo Vásquez was detained at 5:00 hours on the indicated day at his home, accused of a common crime, and transferred to the Investigaciones barracks in Valdivia, where he was locked in a cell.

According to witnesses, during the course of that morning, he was taken out on three occasions to be subjected to interrogations under torture. In the afternoon, he was found dead in the dungeon, hanging by the sleeves of his shirt. However, the police forensic analysis conducted on these items is not fully consistent with the official version.

Considering the background information gathered by this Corporation, the Superior Council concluded that the death of Erasmo Juvenal Vásquez San Martín occurred as a consequence of the torture and illegitimate duress to which he was subjected by State agents during his detention. For this reason, it declared him a victim of human rights violations.
