On July 19, 1985, Mario Sergio PEREZ CORREA, 48 years old, a kinesiologist, died as a result of an explosive attack.
Pérez Correa, who worked at the Hospital del Tórax, was driving home in his car along Calle Merced. While he was just a few meters from the United States Consulate, an attack was carried out against those premises via the explosion of a bomb placed inside a Volkswagen car parked in front of the consular headquarters.
The professional died instantly due to "cranial, encephalic, and thoracic trauma from the action of explosive elements and partial carbonization of soft tissues," according to his death certificate.
That day, two other attacks of the same nature occurred in the vicinity; telephone calls were received from a member of the Frente Patriótico Manuel Rodríguez claiming responsibility for them.
The Commission, taking into consideration the aforementioned elements, reached the conviction that Mario Pérez was a victim of human rights violations, as he died as a consequence of a terrorist act carried out by members of the Frente Patriótico Manuel Rodríguez.
