On December 22, 1973, Manuel David CACERES MUÑOZ, a 60-year-old municipal worker, was killed.
The victim was detained during curfew hours on December 20, 1973, by Carabineros agents, who proceeded to beat him severely. His death certificate states that he died on December 22, 1973, at the Hospital Barros Luco, due to a myocardial infarction with involvement of the cardio-motor system.
He had been admitted to said medical facility by Carabineros personnel. His family states that before dying, he had told them that he was beaten by his captors.
This Commission is convinced that Manuel Cáceres died as a victim of the excessive use of force by State agents, based on the circumstance that the victim was arrested by agents of that nature and died while in their custody.
