Museo de la Memoria y los Derechos Humanos[1]
Luis Percy Alvarado Muñoz died that day at 23:05 hours, at the Carabineros Hospital, due to a craniocerebral gunshot wound, as recorded in the Medical Death Certificate from the Legal Medical Institute.
According to information provided by Carabineros and evidence obtained from the respective judicial proceedings, on December 29, 1984, at approximately 15:30 hours, Luis Alvarado was performing patrol duties in the Cerro Navia sector and was required to attend to a nearby bus terminal where, minutes earlier, members of the Movimiento de Izquierda Revolucionaria (MIR) had perpetrated an assault and fled in a transit bus.
After locating the stolen bus, several blocks from that location, they approached to inspect it. Sergeant Alvarado, while attempting to board the vehicle through the rear door, was struck by shots fired by one of the assailants. He was taken to the Carabineros Hospital, where he passed away one month later.
Considering the evidence gathered and the investigation conducted by this Corporation, the Superior Council reached the conviction that the death of Luis Percy Alvarado Muñoz was the result of acts by private individuals, motivated by political reasons. By virtue of this, he was declared a victim of human rights violations.
