Luis Hilario Barrios Varas died that day at 9:00 hours, at Posta Nº 3, due to thoracic-abdominal gunshot wounds, as certified by the Medical Death Certificate from the Legal Medical Institute.
According to information provided by a brother, on December 25 of that year, around 23:00 hours and at the moment the curfew was beginning, Luis Barrios, who was deaf-mute, was walking along Calle Portales at Huérfanos toward his home, located half a block away.
Under those circumstances, he was shot by Carabineros officers, passing away days later at Posta Nº 3. This information was provided by a neighbor in the area, who stated that upon hearing gunshots, he looked out the window and observed the presence of armed carabineros and Barrios's wounded body.
Considering the evidence gathered and the investigation conducted by this Corporation, the Superior Council, taking into account the time and cause of death, declared Luis Hilario Barrios Varas a victim of the prevailing political violence.
