Luis Eugenio Orellana Berríos died that day at 11:10 hours, at the Hospital de San Bernardo, due to irreversible shock from a gunshot wound with the projectile entering through the left hip and exiting through the right gluteus, as stated in the Medical Death Certificate from the Legal Medical Institute.
Witnesses declared that, around 21:30 hours the previous day, Luis Orellana left a friend's house, located half a block from his own home on Calle Progreso in the Población Sur of San Bernardo, and was intercepted on the way by a military patrol for violating the curfew.
While attempting to escape and take shelter in a neighbor's house, he was struck by a projectile fired by the uniformed officers.
Considering the gathered evidence and the investigation conducted, the Superior Council, taking into account the era and the cause of death, declared Luis Eugenio Orellana Berríos a victim of the prevailing political violence.
