Sergio Osvaldo Pavez Díaz died that day at 13:45 hours at the Barros Luco Hospital due to a gunshot wound with an exit projectile in the right sub-pectoral area, as certified by the Medical Death Certificate from the Legal Medical Institute.
Luis Armando Pinto Rodríguez died on the same day at 10:00 hours on a public street due to a gunshot wound, as recorded in the Medical Death Certificate from the Legal Medical Institute.
According to statements from witnesses and family members, the events occurred around 10:00 hours in the commune of La Cisterna, while a curfew was in effect. Sergio Pavez was at his home with his girlfriend's brother, Luis Pinto, and they decided to go to the latter's house, located two blocks away.
While walking along the street at Augusto Biat and Las Industrias, they were intercepted by a Carabineros tank that was passing through the area, from which a burst of machine-gun fire was directed at them. Luis Pinto died on the spot, and Sergio Pavez was transported to the Barros Luco Hospital, where he passed away hours later.
Considering the evidence gathered and the investigation conducted by this Corporation, the Superior Council declared Sergio Osvaldo Pavez Díaz and Luis Armando Pinto Rodríguez to be victims of human rights violations by State agents, who made disproportionate use of force.
