On June 21, 1974, Luis Alberto JORQUERA JORQUERA, a lathe operator and President of the Soquimich Mechanical Lathe Operators Union, passed away. He was detained in mid-1974 at his workplace by civilians in Tocopilla.
He was held in custody at the police station in that city and was subsequently transferred to Antofagasta, where he was reportedly visited by a family member. At the end of June, his death was reported to them, with his body showing signs of violence.
The Commission formed the conviction that Luis Alberto Jorquera is a victim of human rights violations, having died as a result of torture inflicted upon him by state agents.
