Leonor Gómez Cedeño died that day at 12:10 hours, at the Roy H. Glover Hospital in Chuquicamata, due to hypovolemic shock caused by a right hemothorax and hemoperitoneum from a thoracic-abdominal gunshot wound that had been operated on, as stated in the Medical Death Certificate signed by a forensic physician.
According to the account provided by her daughter, on May 9, 1974, Leonor Gómez was traveling with her husband on an interprovincial bus from Calama to Tocopilla. Under those circumstances, and at the moment the vehicle was passing in front of the electrical substation located at the exit of the city of Calama, she was struck by a projectile fired by one of the conscript soldiers guarding the facility.
She was immediately taken to the Chuquicamata Hospital, where she subsequently passed away.
Considering the evidence gathered and the investigation conducted, the Superior Council declared Leonor Gómez Cedeño a victim of political violence.
