Nelson de Souza Khol, a political exile from his country, died that day at 9:45 hours, on a public street, due to thoracic-abdominal gunshot wounds, as recorded in the Medical Death Certificate from the Legal Medical Institute.
According to the statement provided by Nelson de Souza's spouse, an eyewitness to the events, he was detained on September 15, 1973, at the family home located in the commune of La Cisterna, around 11:00 hours, by members of the Chilean Air Force (FACH). They placed him into an institutional truck and took him to an unknown destination.
The following day, his spouse sought asylum at the Embassy of Brazil and was able to leave the country two months later. Only in 1993, and after numerous efforts before international human rights organizations aimed at determining the whereabouts of Nelson de Souza, did the family receive official certification of his death.
Subsequently, she was informed of the fate of his remains, which were cremated one month after his death.
Considering the evidence gathered and the investigation conducted by this Corporation, the Superior Council reached the conviction that Nelson de Souza Khol was detained by State agents and executed outside of any legal process while being held deprived of his liberty. For this reason, it declared him a victim of human rights violations.
