Juana María Paillaqueo Morales died that day at 16:10 hours, at the Hospital Sótero del Río, due to trauma to the bilateral popliteal vessels caused by bullets, and sepsis, as recorded in the Medical Death Certificate from the Legal Medical Institute.
Witnesses testified that around 21:00 hours on September 4, 1986, the day a collective anti-government demonstration was taking place, Juana Paillaqueo was wounded at the intersection of Calle Rojas Magallanes and Pasaje 54 in the Villa O’Higgins of the La Florida commune, after she had left her home to go shopping.
On that occasion, at the same location, a nine-year-old minor was also wounded by the gunfire. The shots came from a military patrol that was passing through the area. Transferred to the Hospital Sótero del Río, she died six days later at this medical center.
Considering the evidence gathered and the investigation carried out by this Corporation, the Superior Council declared Juana María Paillaqueo Morales a victim of the political violence prevailing at the time of her death.
