Juan Antonio Nilo Arévalo died that day at 21:50 hours, at the Posta Central, due to a thoracic gunshot wound with an exit wound, as recorded in the Medical Death Certificate from the Legal Medical Institute.

Juan Segundo Vera Soto died on the indicated day, at 16:00 hours, at his home in the Isabel Riquelme neighborhood, in the commune of San Joaquín, due to two gunshot wounds with exit wounds, one cervico-thoracic-abdominal and the other abdominal, as recorded in the Medical Death Certificate from the Legal Medical Institute.

According to eyewitnesses, on that September 18, both men were having lunch with their families in the patio of Juan Vera's house, located across from a Carabineros station in the commune of San Joaquín.

Suddenly, and at a moment when everything was calm, a group of carabineros arrived in the area and began firing in various directions, causing all the neighbors to take refuge inside their homes. Juan Antonio Nilo and Juan Vera were wounded in the same place where they had been. The former was transported to a medical center, where he passed away hours later; the latter died instantly.

Considering the evidence gathered and the investigation conducted, the Superior Council of this Corporation declared Juan Antonio Nilo Arévalo and Juan Segundo Vera Soto to be victims of human rights violations by State agents who made improper use of force.
