In the early hours of December 9, 1973, Juan René Alberto VASQUEZ ORTIZ, 25 years old, a laborer and member of the Juventudes Comunistas, was executed.

On the night of the 8th, Vásquez arrived running at his home in the Quinta Normal commune, accompanied by other neighbors, because they had been caught in the street by the curfew. A few moments later, a military patrol arrived and proceeded to detain all the men who were in the building in the presence of witnesses.

It was established through witnesses to the events that the soldiers, after taking them away, forced the detainees to run while simultaneously firing at them. As Vásquez refused to obey the order, a soldier used his weapon, striking him in the thoracic region.

The wounded were later transported by ambulance to the Hospital Félix Bulnes, where Vásquez died at 00:50 hours on December 9, as a result of a gunshot wound with no exit projectile, according to the death certificate.

The autopsy report for Juan Vásquez indicates that "the shot is what is known in forensic medicine as a short-range shot," corroborating what was stated by the witnesses.

Based on the aforementioned grounds, the Commission formed the conviction that Juan Vásquez was executed outside of all legality by State agents and, consequently, he is a victim of a grave human rights violation.
