On December 21, 1973, Juan Pablo BARRA DUARTE, a worker at the ORLANDINI S.A. packaging company, died.
His family last saw him on the indicated day when he left in the morning for work. His spouse found his body at the Instituto Médico Legal on December 24. The body showed gunshot wounds. The death certificate states the time of death as December 21 at 11:00 p.m. at the San Pedro de Las Barrancas estate.
The cause of death was gunshot wounds to the face, cranium, and abdomen, with projectile exit wounds. According to the autopsy report, the shots were fired from a long distance.
Testimonies indicate that the victim had left with his coworkers on the afternoon of that day and that later, at Paradero 1 of the Gran Avenida, he separated from the group and ran toward his home, as the curfew hour was approaching.
Although the Commission is unaware of the circumstances in which he was killed, given the context in which the events occurred, the cause of death, and the place where his remains were found, the Commission has reached the conviction that Juan Barra was a victim of the excessive use of force by State agents, constituting a violation of human rights.
