Juan Enrique Carreño Zúñiga died that day at 18:00 hours, at the Hospital Barros Luco, due to a thoracic-abdominal gunshot wound, as certified by the Medical Death Certificate from the Legal Medical Institute.
According to a relative who witnessed the events, in the days following September 11, 1973, they were forced to remain inside their homes due to the proximity of an industrial plant, where frequent gunfire occurred. The area was surrounded by military personnel stationed in the vicinity.
On September 13, around 11:00 hours, Juan Carreño went out to buy some food. Upon returning to his home, and while climbing the building's interior stairs, he was struck by projectiles fired by military personnel.
He passed away while being transported to the emergency ward of the Hospital Barros Luco, where his death was confirmed.
Although it was not possible to establish the precise circumstances under which his death occurred, the Superior Council, considering the cause of death, as well as the place and date on which it occurred, declared Juan Enrique Carreño Zúñiga a victim of the political violence prevailing at the time.
