Juan Elías Ortiz Quiero died that day at 0:05 hours, at the Barros Luco Hospital, due to an abdominal gunshot wound with an exit wound, as certified by the Medical Death Certificate from the Legal Medical Institute.
On the day of the events, Ortiz Quiero was at his home in the Los Troncos shantytown, in the commune of Lo Espejo, located on the banks of the Carretera Panamericana Sur. According to his spouse, at approximately 23:00 hours, upon hearing bursts of machine-gun fire, Juan Ortiz went to the door of his home. At that moment, he was struck by one of the projectiles.
Considering the gathered background information and the investigation conducted, the Superior Council, taking into account the circumstances, the era, and the cause of his death, reached the conviction that Juan Elías Ortiz Quiero was a victim of the prevailing political violence.
