Juan Carlos González Inzunza died that day, on a public street, from a gunshot wound to the skull, as stated in the Medical Death Certificate from the Legal Medical Institute.
Juan Carlos González was detained along with another person on a public street in La Calera by a *Carabinero* who marched them on foot to the Sub-prefecture of that city. While they were walking, the *Carabinero* held them by the back and, at the same time, had his service weapon drawn, pointing it at Juan Carlos González's head.
After they had walked a few meters, a shot was fired that caused his instantaneous death.
Due to these events, proceedings were substantiated at the Military Prosecutor's Office of Valparaíso against a Carabineros officer. The report states that the shot was fired when the Carabineros officer was attacked by Juan Carlos González with a bladed weapon, a version that was refuted by the eyewitness.
The witness asserted that it was the police officer himself who, after firing the shot, tore his own uniform.
Ultimately, the case was dismissed totally and temporarily, as the Military Judge deemed that the perpetration of a crime had not been fully justified.
Considering the evidence gathered and the investigation conducted by this Corporation, the Superior Council reached the conviction that the death of Juan Carlos González Inzunza was caused by the recklessness of his captor, who was holding him by the neck with his service weapon at the level of his head, and for that reason, declared him a victim of human rights violations.
