Juan Carlos Bettancourt Yévenes died that day at 1:20 a.m., at the Hospital Sótero del Río, due to a gunshot wound to the cranium and thorax with exit wounds, as certified by the Medical Death Certificate from the Legal Medical Institute.
On October 8, 1973, the victim left his home located in the San Gregorio neighborhood and did not return. The following day, family members began searching for him. Four days later, they were notified of his death and had to go to the Legal Medical Institute to identify him.
By virtue of the gathered evidence and the investigation conducted, the Superior Council, considering the time and cause of death and notwithstanding the inability to establish the precise circumstances in which it occurred, declared Juan Carlos Bettancourt Yévenes a victim of the political violence prevailing at that time.
