According to statements from family members and witnesses, on the day of the events, both men were at the home of a friend, located near the railroad tracks in Los Angeles. Investigaciones officials arrived at the location, detained both men and the homeowner, and took them to an unknown destination.
As later recounted by the only surviving witness, the three were taken by the police to one of the banks of the Bío Bío River, where they were shot. Due to the impact of the gunfire, their bodies fell into the river's current and disappeared; to this date, they have not been recovered. The witness, despite having been wounded, managed to grab onto some branches and survive the execution.
Because the bodies have not been found, it has not been possible to register their deaths.
Considering the evidence gathered and the investigations conducted by this Corporation, the Superior Council reached the conviction that José Miguel Larenas Inostroza and Juan Agustín Osses Melgarejo were executed by State agents outside of any legal process while they were deprived of their liberty. By virtue of this, they were declared victims of human rights violations.
