Case summary
José Miguel Jorquera Galvez, a 26-year-old Carabineros officer, was killed on November 15, 1983, in the town of Cabildo. His death, classified as a human rights violation, occurred when militants from the Movimiento de Izquierda Revolucionaria (MIR) shot him during an assault while he was escorting an armored transport vehicle.

On November 15, 1983, José Miguel JORQUERA GALVEZ, 26 years old, a Carabineros officer stationed at the Petorca Tenencia, was killed.
On the morning of that day, the victim was performing security duties for the transport of funds for the Social Security Service in Quillota, accompanied by two officials from said Service. While at the entrance of the La Grupa tunnel, the vehicle in which he was traveling was intercepted by another, occupied by a group of individuals belonging to the Revolutionary Left Movement (MIR).
After stealing four million pesos, they fired upon the police officer, who passed away during the night of the same day at the Cabildo Hospital. The perpetrators of the act stole the officer's service weapon and the state vehicle.
The death certificate indicated the cause of death as a gunshot wound with cranial explosion.
The Commission has reached the conviction that the Carabineros officer José Miguel Jorquera was killed by militants of the Revolutionary Left Movement (MIR), in an act that violated his right to life.
