On September 14, 1973, José Manuel SALAS SOTOMAYOR, 21 years of age, died; his occupation and political affiliation are unknown. His death certificate states: "date of death: September 14, 1973. Time: 05:00 AM. Place of death: Regiment. Antofagasta. Cause: Destruction of brain mass. Multiple skull fractures. Gunshot wound."
Considering that José Salas died inside a military facility as a result of a gunshot wound, this Commission has reached the conviction that his death was caused by the actions of State agents, constituting a violation of fundamental human rights.
