José Emilio Menares Fuentes, 38 years old, died on June 15, 1974, at 7:00 hrs., in the commune of Independencia, Metropolitan Region. According to his Death Certificate, the cause of his death was: “thoracic gunshot wound with projectile exit.” The judicial investigation established that, on the night of June 14, 1974, José Menares Fuentes remained until late at night at the headquarters of the Unión Jotabeche club and that, during curfew hours, he headed toward his home.
Subsequently, he was found dead by neighbors in the area around 6:00 hours. The evidence gathered by this Commission allowed for the conviction that the victim died as a result of the actions of State agents, who allegedly shot him for violating the curfew.
