Jorge Ramón Noriega Duarte died that day at 1:30 a.m. at the Hospital de San Bernardo due to a cardiopulmonary thoracic gunshot wound, as recorded in the Medical Death Certificate from the Legal Medical Institute.
According to a family member who witnessed the events, at approximately 12:30 a.m. on the day in question, while the curfew was in full effect and everyone was asleep at the family home on Calle Ottawa, in the commune of San Bernardo, a gunshot and a cry from Jorge Noriega were heard.
When they rushed to the bedroom, they confirmed that he had been struck in the chest by a bullet fired from outside, which had passed through the wooden wall of the room where he was sleeping. The family member added that they immediately went out to look for those responsible for the incident, finding two conscript soldiers at the corner whom they happened to know; the soldiers remained silent, offering no explanation whatsoever.
The family stated that they were summoned to testify on three occasions before a Military Prosecutor's Office, but they are unaware of the outcome of said judicial investigation.
Considering the evidence gathered and the investigation conducted, the Superior Council, taking into account the time and cause of death, declared Jorge Ramón Noriega Duarte a victim of the political violence prevailing at the time of his death.
