Jorge Nicolás Lira Yáñez died that day at 21:00 hours, on a public thoroughfare, due to complicated craniocerebral and thoraco-abdominal gunshot wounds, as recorded in the Medical Death Certificate from the Legal Medical Institute.

According to testimonies provided by family members, around September 19, near noon, Jorge Lira Yáñez was detained at his home located in the población Roosevelt, in the commune of Conchalí, along with his father and a brother, by military personnel who were conducting an operation in the sector.

The uniformed men took them, with their hands behind their necks, to an area on Calle Valdivieso, where numerous residents were being held; after "checking" their identities, Jorge Lira Yáñez's father and brother were released, and he was taken to a stadium, according to what the captors informed them, without identifying which one it was.

After a few days passed, as he did not return home, the family began searching for him in different places, such as the Estadio Nacional and police barracks. Finally, his lifeless body was located at the Legal Medical Institute.

Considering the background information gathered and the investigation carried out by this Corporation, the Superior Council reached the conviction that Jorge Nicolás Lira Yáñez was detained and executed by State agents outside of any legal process. For this reason, it declared him a victim of human rights violations.
