Jorge Alfredo Ramírez Iturriaga died that day at 21:40 hours, at the Hospital José Joaquín Aguirre, due to skeletal and visceral polytraumatism, as stated in the Death Certificate.
According to statements by eyewitnesses and other evidence obtained from the judicial process, Jorge Ramírez was on Calle Pedro Fontova, in the commune of Conchalí, when he was approached by Carabineros officers from the Fifth Precinct who had arrived at the scene following a report of a fight inside an electronic games arcade, where he had been previously.
After checking his identification, they ordered him to leave, but as he was complying with the order, he was wounded in the leg by a gunshot fired by one of the police officers. The young man was left lying on the roadway, without receiving assistance from the officers; under these circumstances, he was struck by a private vehicle, causing injuries that led to his death.
A judicial process was initiated regarding these events, and the police officer who fired the shot was sentenced in the first instance to four years of imprisonment as the perpetrator of the crime of unnecessary violence resulting in serious injury.
Considering the evidence gathered and the investigation conducted by this Corporation, the Superior Council declared Jorge Alfredo Ramírez Iturriaga a victim of human rights violations by State agents who made improper use of force.
