Joaquín del Carmen Marambio Silva died that day at 11:00 hours, at Posta Nº3, due to a thoracic gunshot wound with an exit wound, as recorded in the Medical Death Certificate from the Legal Medical Institute.
According to statements from family members, on September 11, after the military coup had occurred, Joaquín Marambio decided to stay at his workplace, a commercial establishment where he worked as a caretaker, located in the vicinity of the Estación Central.
On September 13, he notified his family that he would remain in that location until things were calmer. He also commented that there was heavy police surveillance and intense gunfire.
Under those circumstances, and while he was observing the events from the roof of the commercial establishment, he was struck by a bullet.
Considering the evidence gathered and the investigation conducted, despite not having been able to establish the precise circumstances of his death, given the time it occurred and its cause, the Superior Council declared Joaquín del Carmen Marambio Silva a victim of the prevailing political violence.
