On June 1, the Eighth Chamber of the Santiago Court of Appeals, composed of justices Juan Cristóbal Mera, María Cecilia González Diez, and Jorge Norambuena, ratified the acquittal of Luis Jeldres Olivares and Aclicio Muñoz Mori in the investigation into the homicide of José Miguel Vargas Valenzuela, a sentence issued on December 31, 2014, by Justice Mario Carroza.
This decision was adopted with a dissenting vote from Justice Norambuena, who considered that the crime, perpetrated in the commune of Santiago on September 27, 1973, constitutes a crime against humanity.
