On February 9, 1990, Jaime Arturo GONZALEZ CALQUIN, 28 years old, a Carabineros officer assigned to the 13th Precinct of La Granja, died during a confrontation that took place in that commune.
On the night of that day, a unit of the Investigaciones police was attacked by a commando acting under political motives. Subsequently, members of that group also attacked the San Ramón Carabineros Sub-precinct.
They then fled the scene. The victim was inside said unit and, along with two other police officers, went in pursuit of the attackers. A few blocks from the police unit, a confrontation occurred between the attackers and the carabineros, leaving the victim wounded and another police officer also injured.
Carabinero González received a gunshot wound to the head and passed away at the Carabineros Hospital while receiving medical attention.
Considering that the attack on two police units can only be understood within the context of a violent political struggle, the Commission reached the conviction that Carabinero Jaime Arturo González Calquín fell victim in a confrontation with individuals who acted under political pretexts.
