On August 9, 1984, a Day for Life was held, organized by various religious, social, and political organizations. In that context, 19-year-old Hugo Patricio BRAVO FUENTES lost his life. During the night, he was participating in a barricade and bonfire at the intersection of Exequiel Fernández and Camino Agrícola (Santiago), along with 80 other people. Carabineros arrived at the scene to disperse the demonstration.
They made use of their service weapons. A bullet struck him in the skull, causing his death.
This Commission, based on testimonies regarding this case and taking into account the modus operandi of the public security forces on other occasions, presumes that, notwithstanding the need to maintain public order, firearms were used disproportionately, violating the human rights of Hugo Patricio Bravo.
