The following day, September 14, 1973, in the city of Talca, three members of a family were victims of political execution:
Héctor VALENZUELA SALAZAR, 27 years old, university professor;
Hilda Isolina VELASQUEZ CALDERON, 31 years old, university nurse and member of the Communist Party; and
Claudia Andrea VALENZUELA VELASQUEZ, six years old.
As in the previous case, Carabineros arrived at the family's home as part of the investigations they were conducting following the incident at Paso Nevado. They raided Héctor Valenzuela's house and killed him, his spouse, and one of his daughters.
They left the couple's other two children, Paula and Gonzalo Valenzuela, aged four and two respectively, wounded. The official explanation stated that it had been a confrontation.
The evidence gathered by this Commission confirms that the house was raided in the early morning and the victims were executed inside; police officers had cordoned off the area from early on, warning some neighbors not to go out into the street and ordering them to remain in their homes; and when other relatives of the professor arrived while the bodies were still in the house, the Carabineros present explained that it had been a suicide.
Therefore, this Commission has formed the conviction that José Castillo, Héctor Valenzuela, his spouse Hilda Velásquez, and his daughter Claudia Valenzuela are victims of a grave violation of their human rights, as they were executed by State agents, outside of any justification.
