Case summary
Fernando del Carmen González Tognarelli, a 26-year-old youth with no political affiliation, died on September 12, 1973, after being shot by Carabineros in the La Pincoya neighborhood, Santiago. The incident occurred while he was attempting to buy bread during the curfew, when he received a gunshot wound to the skull that caused his death shortly thereafter at the Hospital José Joaquín Aguirre.

Fernando del Carmen González Tognarelli died that day at 11:00 hours, at the J.J. Aguirre Hospital, due to a gunshot wound to the cranium with an exit wound, as certified by the Medical Death Certificate from the Legal Medical Institute.
According to testimonies from neighbors who witnessed the events, Fernando González left his home in the La Pincoya neighborhood around 9:00 in the morning that day with the intention of buying bread. Carabineros were stationed in the area, firing at anyone who violated the curfew that had been in effect since the previous day.
Under these circumstances, uniformed officers positioned behind a tree fired at his body. Fernando González fell after being struck in the back of the neck. He passed away shortly thereafter at the José Joaquín Aguirre Hospital.
Considering the evidence gathered and the investigation conducted, the Superior Council, taking into account the date, time, and cause of death, declared Fernando del Carmen González Tognarelli a victim of the political violence prevailing at the time of his death.
