On March 27, 1984, eleven people died in events linked to the Eighth National Day of Protest:
Erika del Carmen SANDOVAL CARO, 15 years old, a high school student, was struck in the afternoon by a bullet that passed through her head. She was outside her home on Avenida 5 de abril, Maipú, when a Carabineros bus arrived, from which tear gas canisters were launched and shots were fired. There were demonstrations in the vicinity.
The Commission, based on the testimonies received, presumes that the actions of the police officers were disproportionate in relation to the disturbance of public order in the sector, thereby violating Erika del Carmen Sandoval's right to life.
