Relatos de los Hechos

Juan Delgado Vial. Juan was a Peruvian national. He had joined the MIR at the sociology school of the Universidad de Chile in the first semester of 1971, shortly after arriving in Chile. At the end of July 1973, he was arrested in Santiago by a military patrol while he and other comrades were distributing flyers to soldiers guarding fuel distribution at a gas station.

These were flyers in which we called on the troops not to fire on the people. Taken to the Tacna regiment, he was tortured and then transferred to the Investigaciones, which released him after 15 days due to efforts by the Peruvian embassy or consulate.

Following party guidance, he left for Argentina in August 1973, along with his girlfriend, who was an Argentine national, to avoid further persecution against him. When the coup occurred, he moved to Buenos Aires and, after a few months, joined the ranks of the PRT.

At the time of his arrest, he was active in a PRT propaganda structure on the outskirts of Buenos Aires. His family, based in Peru, only learned of his arrest following an anonymous call days after the event took place.

As his parents were elderly, there were no family members who could conduct an investigation or file any complaint regarding his case. His case is registered on the official CONADEP list.
