On September 4, 1985, ten people died during the demonstrations related to the Fourteenth National Day of Protest:
Daniel David ARANDA SAAVEDRA, 21 years old, was a worker in the Occupational Program for Heads of Households (POJH). On the afternoon of the 4th, residents looted an industrial facility guarded by members of the Fuerza Aérea (in Santiago).
A helicopter arrived, from which uniformed personnel descended and fired their weapons to disperse those present. A bullet wounded Daniel David Aranda, causing his death.
The testimonies and information received by the Commission account for the extremely complex nature of the situation and do not allow for a determination of whether there was excessive use of force. Based on the same information, the Commission presumes that Daniel David Aranda fell victim to a situation of political violence in which he became involved.
